My teaching philosophy

Whether I’m leading a coaching session or a workshop, I believe everything we do together should be:

  • Actionable. The learning only matters if you can apply it to your work, so we’ll focus on skills you can put into practice right away.

  • Authentic. Sometimes authenticity means honing your own personal voice and perspective. Other times, it’s sharpening clarity, accuracy, and precision in your ideas and your prose. Often it’s both. And I always keep this tenet at the center of my instruction.

  • Memorable. Great writing is all about capturing attention. I put this principle into practice in our work together, ensuring the learning is engaging, impactful, and fun.

  • “It's definitely easier for me to tell my story now. With Erin’s coaching, I have the skills and confidence to explain what I’m doing and why in words that resonate with my clients, which is exactly what you need to do to grow your business.”

    Mike, independent consultant

  • “Now I can show up with vulnerability at the beginning of my workshop with a story that helps me introduce myself to the audience and the confidence that I know how to communicate it. This will help me make sure the people I work with are emotionally invested in what I have to say.”

    Trevor, coach and facilitator

About Erin

I’m an author and marketer living in Washington, DC. My debut novel, Crushing It, will be published by Penguin Random House summer 2024.

I hold my MFA in writing for children and young adults from Vermont College of Fine Arts, my BA in English and creative writing from UNC-Chapel Hill, and I write fiction, poetry, and criticism. Learn more at my author site.

I also run Spondee Studio, a marketing and content strategy studio for small and medium-sized businesses, where I leverage more than a decade of experience on both the agency side and in-house on creative and marketing teams. Early in my career, I also spent three years in the classroom, teaching English at the secondary level and Spanish at the university level.

For the past five years, I’ve led workshops for business professionals, nonprofit staff, creatives, and students to help them sharpen their writing skills and hone their voice as written communicators. It’s deeply rewarding working with writers, aspiring writers, and people who don’t even know they’re writers yet, and I love watching their confidence and the strength of their writing grow.
